Sunset Canal tours in Venice?

I am wondering if there is such a company that will do a short tour of the canals?

The usual tourist type tours (haven't done any personally)...
Not sure about 'sunset' specifically, though. You can always hire a gondola tour on your own...

Hi anabelle,

we just got back from Venice a week or so ago, and IMO there's really no need to book anything ahead. As travelnut says, you could just hire a gondola at the appropriate time [there is absolutely no shortage of them!] or at the other end of the budget, get on a vaporetto and go and sit up the front.

to actually see the sunset, the best place would probably be a bar on the Zattere or on the terrace of an apartment, as once you are in a gondola or a boat, you will be in between the buildings and unable to see the setting sun very much at all.

another alternative would be to hire a water-taxi and ask the driver to take you to where you can see the sun-set, then break open the prosecco.

regards, ann

I don't know about the Sunset CANAL tours but one of the best that I have done is being on one of those 2 level big boats (and of course be on the higher deck) coming from Punta Sabionni > Lido > to San Marco. These are regular boats that you can take with ordinary vaporetto tickets. I have done it a few times coming back from Burano to Venice. Punta Sabioni > Burano part may be long but relaxing and the scenery on the lagoon is beautiful and when the timing is right, when you arrive at San Marco, you will get e.g.this :

Hi Anabelle - I believe Il Burchiello has an evening cruise:

Hope this helps ...

No personal experience but both seems to do canal tours. You might like to check them out.
