Sunny16:

Thanks for posting the photos. We were in London the week before you so I enjoyed seeing familiar places! Jan (twina)

I really like your photos sunny16, especially the ones of food.

I'm going to have to try food shots the next time I'm in Europe.

Thanks, guys!

Indy, I love taking pictures of well-presented food. I'm not sure why. It helps if you have a lens that can focus pretty close (you should be able to find this out in the specs for your camera).

Sunny, your photos were so good. I especially like the ones with the two boys and the mime. One question: do you know when the gherkin building was built? I don't remember it from my visits to London, but then the last time I was there was at the end of 2000.

Those are fabulous pics, Sunny16.

Poohgirl,
I think construction of the gerkin ( Swiss Re Headquarters ) began in 2001... I watched its progress for several years of my annual London trip. It was complete when I was in London last October.

Thanks, Star. I'm glad my memory is still somewhat intact. :>

I'm glad you guys liked my photos!

Poohgirl, the Gherkin was officially opened for business in May 2004. Here is the website for the building. It has all sorts of information and many wonderful photos of it:

I became fascinated with this building when a friend of mine took photos of it shortly before my trip. I love the design and the fact that it was built to be environmentally friendly.

I loved that you hade a photo of the Cockpit Steps. My husband and I walked around the block a couple of time before we realized that the direction to Trafalgar Square we had meant "Walk down the steps!" I sent it to him and we had a good laugh. (I bought an A to Z guide to London the next day. It made things easier to navigate. :) )

I thought the Cockpit Steps were so cute! They were just a couple of blocks from our hotel. I love all those secretive passages in London. :)
