SunExpress Summer Schedule is out!
 

Looks like SunExpress has their summer flights online now. No flights from Izmir to Kayseri on Tuesdays or Wednesdays :(

thanks for the heads up. boo, was hoping for a tues direct flight. i guess pegasus or turkish airlines it is.

here are the two choices:
1) turkish airlines
leave selcuk by 7:30
10:00 11:10 İzmir to Atatürk
12:00 13:25 Atatürk to Kayseri

is 50 min enough time for a layover at ataturk? we will probably have to check a bag.

otherwise we can start really early

2) pegasus airlines
leave selcuk by 4:30am ?? will it be difficult to drive then?
KAMPANYA Departure 06:55 Arrival 08:20

for both options, i am assuming i need to get to the airport 1 hour ahead of flight time and need to allow 1.5 hours to drive from selcuk to izmir and return the rental car.

which option do you think is better?

If bags checked all the way and flying THY all the way, and if THY gives you the ticket that way and also if there is no delay longer than ten minutes from Izmir, 590 minutes layover will be enough. You will then hope that the ground crew will have been super fast in getting your luggage from the first to the second plane. But miracles may happen!!!

Selcuk to Izmir airport is a leisurely 60 minute drive, mostly on motorway (need KGS toll card) 90 minutes on the old highway maybe. Car return will also be very quick and close to your departure hall.

I am on the same 10:00 am TA flight on a Wed - I too am hoping my bags make it from the first plane to the second :) But as that is the way they have it set up hopefully they can make it work!

hmmm sounds a bit risky. otherchelebi, would you take the 6:55 flight over the the connection flight then? otherwise there is another flight with a 4 hour layover.

Is there any way you can do with only carry-ons?

THY usually does not measure or weigh carry-on luggaege and you may be able to take a medium size duffle in with you.

Or alternatively, you can put stuff that you would not mind remaining in Istanbul in your checked luggage and if the baggage do not reach you in time, pick it up at Kayseri airport before your flight back to istanbul or even at Istanbul airport upon your arrival back from Kayseri.

THY usually rushes transit passengers through to departure gates once you arrive in istanbul and may even delay the kayseri flight a few minutes for you.

However, there is still a risk. If you think that not having had enough sleep the night before will not be a problem for your sightseeing on the first day of Cappadocia, I would not take the risk just to avoid the anxiety.
