Sundays and Mondays in Florence

I know things are closed on these days. Just wondering if the shops are open on Mondays?..if not, what's a good way to plan the day. The museums are closed too as I gather...

We have no car.

Hi lois,

Almost all museums are open Sunday. The main ones are closed Monday.

Got to Museums on Sunday. Shop Monday.

Grazie! (is that correct?...I just got my Pimsleur Italian tapes..)

Grazie is correct, if you meant to say 'thank you.' :)

On a Monday you can visit the Duomo, the Campanile, the Baptistry. You can take a 20 minute bus ride (#13) up to Piazelle Michelangelo for a gorgeous view of Florence, especially at dusk. The Santa Croce church (where many notables have tombs, including Michelangelo and Machiavelli), as well as most other churches, are usually open every day. The Palazzo Vecchio is open on Mondays, as is the Museo dell Opera del Duomo which is small and has Michelangelo works. The Bargello and San Marco museums were open on SOME Mondays last time I looked.

Depending on how much time you have in Florence, Monday would be a great day to take a bus tour (9AM to 6PM) that takes you to San Gimig..... and Siena. Both towns are fascinating. Or take a bus trip the other way, over to Lucca(?).

Lots of things are closed the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays, or the 1st, 3rd and 5th Mondays of the month. We were there on the first Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the month; we had PLENTY to do, but there were several places that we just couldn't visit.
