Sunday Roasts in London
 

We need to pick up our Travelcards at Waterloo Station on Sunday morning/noon after our arrival Saturday night.

Anyone have a favorite place for a Sunday Roast near Waterloo, Tower Hill, London Bridge, Globe Theatre, Westminster, Leicester Square? Not sure what we'll be doing that day (will depend on weather)

Dean Swift - just past Tower Bridge on the south side of the river (worth wandering around the area, lots of gorgeous views of Tower Bridge)

I would avoid touristy places at Leicester Square or Covent Garden.

The Swan is lovely as is the South Bank generally! I'd second that... though it's always pretty busy and on the expensive side...

For something a little cheaper, and a little away from tourist areas, the Black Friar next to the newly opened Blackfriars station is nice and only about 20mins from Waterloo on foot.

What is Nut Roast? On the Sunday Roast Menu at Black Friar.

Nut roast is a vegetarian roast, the ones I've seen look like a meat loaf.

Wrenwood, you might consider THE CRYPT in the basement of St. Martin’s in the Field Church, London landmark in colorful Trafalgar Square. Sunday roasts at £7.95 according to their website.

Or the reataurant at StPaul's open noon until3 on Sundays, Then yo could walk across the bridge to the Globe

You could also look for somewhere offering a carvery - this is a choice of 2 or 3 different roasts often beef, gammon or turkey although the choice will vary, served with vegetables, Yorkshire puddings etc. These are not served just on a Sunday and are usually fairly reasonable.

Several years ago, our much mourned Ben Haines recommended The Albert Pub and its carvery. It is located within walking distance of Westminster Abbey. We did eat lunch there but did not use the carvery, as it was just too much food for us that day.

Thanks all, I have researched and bookmarked some of them as possibilities for other meals .............. because ............. we are actually going to arrive in the UK earlier, so we can pick up our Travel Cards on Saturday, which gives us more time on Sunday .................. SO ............ on Sunday we are going to take a bus up to The Bull and Last for Sunday Roast.

It's a 45 min bus ride, but I have read how many people on this Forum enjoy the busses so much more than the tube as they can see things. And if we spend Saturday afternoon getting our Travel Cards at Waterloo, visiting Borough Market and ?????? on that side of the River, the Sunday bus ride to Bull and Last through parts of London will give us our first look!

I second Sunday lunch at The Bull and Last, though it is out of the way. How delicious the food is and then to roam afterwards onto the Heath across the street.
Another amazing favorite is The Royal Oak, in the heart of Borough. Just delicious and simple old school fare - roasts with bread sauce and well kept ale! Heaven!

Oh I now see that you have chosen The Bull and Last. Have a wonderful time and don't forget to order the scotch egg as a starter! Simply the best in town - the yoke perfectly runny inside and with crisp exterior and flavor of sage.

In my search for a Sunday Roast dinner, I came across The Pantechnicon Public House in the area we are staying.
