Sunday morning in London: which museum?
 

We're leaving for London tomorrow night and naturally, we're pretty excited :-)
This is basically a shopping / Christmas trip but we though we might try to squeeze in a museum on Sunday morning and I'm looking for recommendations please. We're staying in Mayfair and will be spending the afternoon in Knightsbridge, so somewhere in one of those two areas would be best.
The only London museum we've already been to is the British Museum. We're not HUGE museum fans (kids are 12 & 9) so somewhere with a couple of big ticket items (something the kids might have heard of) would be best.

WE have hundreds of museums here, many open on Sunday mornings. What do you think the chances are that complete strangers will have the remotest likelihood of predicting your likes?

What don't you like about museums? And what kind of things DO your family like looking at?

Go to Kensington. You have the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and the V&A museum all next to each other. One of them is bound to suit you. With kids those ages, the Nat History or Science might be best.

You might like to let the youngsters see their websites (if there's time) to see if there's anything they like:

The National Portrait Gallery is wonderfully educational. Also... there's an excellent restaurant, Portraits, on the top floor that overlooks Trafalger Square, etc to the river. (Reservations probably a good idea.)

Not sure if Victoria and Albert would be open on Sunday am but it is a great museum with some hands on activities for children. It is free and is in South Kensington on Brompton Road so it would be in your area.
