Sunday Lunch near Liverpool St Station, London

The title says it all really. I am looking for suggestions for a nice Sunday Lunch for three people in the vicinity of Liverpool Street Station. I am told that area can be quiet at weekends with a lot of places closed. We need to catch a train about 3pm so would prefer to relax and eat close to the station if possible. Would like a nice restaurant of hotel if possible or a pub with good food.

The Great Eastern Hotel is just next to Liverpool St Station and is really good. Pricey, but good.

You could try Woodins Shades (Nicholsons pub) which is across teh street at the Bishopsgate exits. We were there yesterday and the food looked good, and in my experience Nicholsons have good pub food.

Good suggestions - many thanks!

The Dirty Dick's not bad if you like pub grub (opposite Bishopgate exit - before you get to the Woodin Shades).

The Hamilton Hall in the station itself is a wetherspoons pub so I'm not recommending it for food - but it used to be the ball room of the hotel and is worth sticking your head round the door to see the decoration. It's like being inside a wedding cake.

Spitalfields is quite a lively area on a Sunday and it's a few minutes walk from the Bishopsgate exit of the Station.

St John Bread and Wine (94-96 Commercial Street, E1) is very good for modern Bristish food. The walk takes you past Spitalfields Market and Christ Church Spitalfields, and you are yards away from the silk weavers' houses around Fournier Street. See:

There are plenty of other options around Spitalfields Market including S&M and Market Coffee House which are cheaper options on Brushfield Street (opposite the market) both have reviews on the Time Out website.

Just to mention that S&M stands for sausage and mash in this case....

They run the refreshments on the Thames Clipper boats, and advertise something called an S&M breakfast. Muesli without milk, I'm guessing.

Very sharp Frosties...

Canteen in Spitalfields market. It can get quite busy on Sundays, but there are quite a few restaurants inside Spitalfields market that you can choose from.
