Sunday in Tuscany - what to do?
 

I'm looking for ideas of things to do on a Sunday in Tuscany. We are staying in Montalcino. I would assume most everything is closed as far as small towns go? I believe we were in San Gim a few years back and many of their shops are open. I don't feel the need to go back there but wondered what other folks do? Any fun ideas???

Ask your hotel what local markets are going on. It is a bit far, but Panzano in Chianti has their market on Sundays. Otherwise, you might luck out with the antiques market in Arezzo.

Thank you Megan! Actually, we went to the antiques market in Arezzo last time we were in Tuscany which was a few years ago! We were staying closer to Arezzo so it was an easy choice. I also highly recommend that market, it was a lot of fun and you could get some good deals! Thanks for the Panzano recommendation as well. I'll check it out and see if it's doable!

Don't forget that the market in Arezzo is only on the first Sunday of the month. Greve has a food and "stuff" market on Sundays. Also far.

Church services at San Antimo are the first thing that come to my mind. Bagno Vignoni is a good place to go on a Sunday, as you can see the big sight and not worry about what's open. And there is nice park to wander through in San Quirico.

Roca d'Orcia, and the climb up to the old fort would be good.

Yes---I love Sundays in the small towns. It is a cultural experience that is unique. Do what the locals do and watch then doing it. Go to a mass--perhaps at 10:00---and then have reservations at a local trattoria for Sunday dinner---as do many locals. I love to see the family life--often 3 generations. Try not to look too touristy and enjoy the real culture of Italy.

Shops are open in Pienza. The landscape of the Val d'Orcia is always available.

Yes, we have been to San Antimo and have loads of pictures. I'm looking forward to taking more as well! I know the area fairly well but, certainly not an expert. We spend a lot of time doing photography in general, I guess I was just looking for something a bit off the beaten path. Does anyone know of any biking day trips in the Val D'Orcia?

I know the antique market in Arezzo won't work for us because we'll be in the area over the last weekend of the month.
