Sunday in Paris...What will be open?
 

I am going to be in Paris for one day in June, 2012, which happens to be a Sunday. This is my first visit to the area so I am planning on spending most of my time in the Notre Dame area. I know that a lot of the major stores, etc are closed on Sundays. My question is this...what WILL be open? I assume that a least some of the cafes, etc will be open since people need to eat on that day. :) Will there be any shops open? I will be buying the usual touristy things to take home but would like to be able to see other shops as well. Can you suggest somewhere to eat? I am open to any suggestions.

As mentioned, I am planning on focusing on the Notre Dame area but I am open to any other suggestions of things that I just have to see. Any thoughts?

The Notre Dame area being a tourist area, nearly every commercial enterprise will be open. You will have absolutely no problem finding souvenirs, that's for sure.

Cafés will be open. Museums are open. And you can just walk along the Seine. You won't have much more time after Notre-Dame and the Sainte Chapelle.

Practically everything will be open. It's tourist central.
As for somewhere to eat, what are you interested in eating and what's your budget.

Everything allowable by law will be open - large stores with a certain surface area I believe are forced to close on Sundays except in some designated tourist areas. Everything you want will be open, like kerouac, who lives in Paris, says.

Check out Shakespeare and Co. if you're at all a book lover.

Souvenir shops are always open. I've never seen a cafe closed on Sunday (I'm sure there may be one somewhere, I just have never seen it).

Agree, you should find plenty open. You might try to find the time for this bateau.

For where to eat I'd suggest Breizh Cafe - well known & loved for their crepes, and open on Sundays. They are at 109 rue Vieille du Temple, 75003. Nearest metro: Filles du Calvaire.

In addition, the Marais area will be buzzing with activity on Sunday - walk around and enjoy the window shopping. Maybe have a falafel on Rue des Rosiers.

Shops will be open in the Marais (allowed to be open on Sunday because Sat is the Jewish sabbath), Isle St Louis, much of the Latin Quarter, Monmartre, and the touristy stuff close to Notre Dame. Generally speaking, the Marais & the ultra-touristy shops will be open. Printemps, Gallery Lafayette, Bon Marche, Heddiard, and most of the "fashionable" places will be closed.

How very odd. But it you are in Paris before noon, there is a wonderful street market at Pl. Monge that is open on Sundays. The booksellers will be open, and everyone else says, lots of other things.

StCirq--I don't really have a budget in mind. I would like to eat somewhere I can really have a "Parisian" experience. I am open to trying all sorts of foods. For something special, I would be willing to spend up to E100. It can be a cafe or a restaurant. I am a little hesitant to eat in a fancy restaurant because I don't speak any french and I think that I would feel intimidated.
