Sunday Concern
Hi! I've already booked my flight and booked 3 out of 6 places to stay in Italy this coming september.
At the beginning, I planned my 3 week trip arriving on a Sunday in Rome (5 nights), a weekend on Capri (3 nights), almost a week in Florence (6 nights), arriving on a Sunday in Venice (5 nights) and ending on a weekend in Milan (3 nights). If I do this itinerary starting on a Sunday, I'll be part of the first Sunday in Rome (arriving at noon), the second Sunday on Capri, the third Sunday in Venice (arriving at noon), and the last Sunday on Lake Como (daytrip from Milan). My concern about this itinerary is this: - Was it a bad idea to program Capri and Lake Como on a Sunday in terms of being too crowded? I've read that shops are open in those two places on Sunday so I'm not worried about that, but I am sure worried about being there with a lot of other tourists packing up those places. However, I'll be on Capri for 3 nights so I know that it won't be just Sunday. The other option would've been to start on a Wednesday, but that would've meant spending the first Sunday in Assisi (daytrip from Rome), Siena or San Gimignano (both daytrips from Florence) on the second Sunday or Monday respectively, and the isles of the venetian lagoon on the third Sunday. My concern about this second itinerary is this: - Spending Sunday on those locations where I've read that many stores don't open or where there are also a lot of people daytripping. - If I daytrip there some other days, that would mean spending those respective Sundays in Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan where I've also read that stores are not usually open and I really don't like being in a place with closed shops. Besides, most museums in Florence don't open on Mondays so, with the fisrt itinerary, the only Monday I'd spend in Florence would be the arrival day. The thing is that for some reasons I hate Sundays everywhere in the world. Either when I am home or when I am on a trip. I know there's no such thing as the perfect trip (I believe in great trips, though) and Sundays are a fact and I have to spend them somewhere. Should I leave my flight and hotels booked according to the fisrt itinerary (starting and ending on a Sunday) or the second one (starting and ending on a Wednesday)? I'm more inclined to doing the fisrt itinerary, but, sometimes, I start thinking if it had been a better idea doing the second one. Do you think that I should stop stressing about it, just let it go and start enjoying the thought that I'll travel to Italy in September? Thanks for taking the time to read my long post and give me your constructive opinion! |
Hi S,
>Do you think that I should stop stressing about it, just let it go and start enjoying the thought that I'll travel to Italy in September?< Yes. I think that you have a very good plan in your 1st itinerary. Think how interesting the phrase "a weekend on Capri" sounds. ((I)) Say "Hi" to Meshach and Abednego for me. |
Thanks Ira!
I'm definitely going to take it easy. You're totally right, "a weekend on Capri" sounds really good. I hadn't seen it that way. Now, I'm looking forward to it. I'm going to finish the hotel booking this week so I don't worry about it anymore. |
A final note: two of your Sundays are you arrival days (Venice and Rome). You will be arriving and settling in when everyone else is leaving. Yes, you'll find weekenders and daytrippers at Lake Como (just like you). Big deal--you'll be on Lake Como!
Sounds like a nice trip. |
Thanks Ellenem!
You and Ira have definitely given me the encouragement that I needed to realize that I did a good job on my itinerary. |
Hi SHADRACH, we are all so different. My favorite day of the week is Sunday no matter where I am! Have a beautiful time in Italy.
