Summer Travel to Italy

I have only been to Italy in February and April, never during the summer. Both times we flew Alitalia.

Planning on going with my entire family this summer. (In the early stages of planning.)

Knowing the weather is extremely hot in these months, would you suggest sticking with early July or late August. Or does it not make a difference.

Thanks!

Either last week of June for two weeks or last two weeks of August.

Last two weeks of August is the traditional summer vacation time for most Italians. I'd choose June/July.

The last two weeks of August may be somewhat cooler than the first week of July.

Also, if you're staying in the cities, many hotels offer discounts in August.

LOL, this reads like a nursing home conversation.

Where are you planning to go?
June or August...
End of July will be hotter than August

VitaAnn: WHERE in Italy are you headed? That will help with time-of-year suggestions.

It does sound funny doesn't it.

Venice- 3 nights
Florence- 3 nights

Two nights in a small town in Umbria or Tuscany, not sure which one yet.

Rome- 4 nights
Sorrento- 3 nights

Not sure if we are starting South and ending north, or starting north and ending south yet...

THanks!

How many people in the "entire family"?

That's a fairly fast paced trip, if it is a large group you're moving around 5 times in 2 weeks.

Sure hope that you got your airfare already or REALLY soon as those flights are consistently oversold to Rome,Florence,Venice and Milan at that time of the year!

Yes, depending on how many people are going, you need to get plane tickets and make hotel reservations ASAP. Or don't you need to stay in the same hotel?

And are you planning to use the trains?

I'd consider dropping the 2 nights in Tuscany and adding one each to Rome and Sorrento. (Lots to see in Rome, of course, and from Sorrento: Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, Capri.)

Finally, I assume you're doing open jaws and flying into Venice. From which city are you leaving? Naples?
