Summer Acommod. in University Residences.
Has anybody first hand knowledge of staying in ensuite rooms in any of the many universities advertising in Brit. Travel Publications in London?
|
My family and I stayed in university accommodation almost 5 years ago, in London. The rooms were typical dorm rooms: bed....desk....wardrobe. Nothing else. We each had our own ensuite, and they too were very spare. Clean, but nothing but the basics. It was just somewhere to dump our luggage and GO. That's all we were looking for, and that's all we got. It was fine for our needs. I believe at the time we paid £22 per person.

Corky- Do you have any particular place in mind? I lived at a dorm at University College London for a year and I know they rent out dorm rooms during summer time. My dorm is not ensuite, but I can tell you that it is clean but basic. Well, I survived living there for a year, so it couldn't have been too bad! My friend was a student at King's College and their dorm is decent too. Just don't expect much for the price you pay. |
Appreciate your comments.
Lon.Sch.Econ. has ensuite triple rooms at its High Holborn Residence and it looks to be very central. Price 70 GBP with buffet cont. breakfast. Can get hotel in Sussex Gds. for 105 GBP.so 35x4 extra as we plan on 4 days. The question is: For 140 GBP more should we opt for the more expensive property? |
Corky- Is Sussex gardens near Paddington? I personally would pick LSE for its location. It's much closer to Soho & Convent Garden. I think LSE's dorms should be ok, plus the price includes breakfast! If all you want is a place to sleep and not spend all your time in a room, I don't see why not to choose LSE. Plus you can spend the extra £140 on great meals! |
Some of the places around Paddington can be pretty grim-odd furniture, cigarete burn marks in the bedspreads and so on. It's a while since I was in hall but the standard there was almost universally better than the worst of the Paddington places I have stayed in.

I stayed at Buit Hall (?spelling) at the Imperial College London in July 2001.
My room had been recently refurbished, had a large ensuite and the window of the room overlooked the Albert Hall. It was great and the cost included an english breakfast. |
