Suggestions on how to spend 2 days and 1 night in Tuscany
In our trip this mid-may we are visiting Florence for 2 complete days and nights, after which we have 2 more free days (and 1 night) before we have to return to Rome to catch a 9:30 pm flight to Athens.
We are looking for suggestions as to how to most sensibly, but memorably, spend these 2 days ( we will have already been to Rome for 3 complete days).

I don't know what you like to do but on a recent trip when we had 2 full days in Tuscany we visited a winery (Villa Dievole), spent most of a day in San Gimignano, went to an olive oil farm near Volterra and spent an afternoon by the pool at our hotel outside of SG. This was not our first time in Tuscany and we were there in September. When are you going; have you been before?

When we left Florence, we rented a car and drove down the Chiantiagiana through the countryside, stopping for a wonderful lunch overlooking a beautiful vineyard and, of course, stopping for photos. It was such an enjoyable, relaxing and beautiful drive. We headed to Siena, explored the city and stayed for the night. The town is lovely, with very nice shops and restauraunts and a magnificent Duomo. We enjoyed our stay there very much.
The next day we went to San Gim--loved that town--for part of the day and explored a bit more before returning to Rome for our flight.
All in all, it was a short but very memorable time in Tuscany...nothing was planned and we loved every minute of it.
