Suggestions on free attractions/museums in Florence
We are traveling to Italy this September and are trying to save as much money as possible, does anyone know if there are any free attractions or free museums in Florence? Thanks.

You might try searching under events on the Florence Tourist Board website.
http://www.firenzeturismo.it/en/find/events.html This is the website for the state museums of Florence, but I think most cost. http://www.polomuseale.firenze.it/en...usei/musei.asp The tourist board has been offering a pretty cheap tour to Chianti one day a week (Thursday I think) for 15€ which includes vineyards and some wine tasting/snacks. |
It may not be a museum, but the duomo costs nothing and is lovely, and the mercato is always fun, as is window shopping at Ponte Vecchio. The view from Piazza Michelangelo is stunning and not to be missed!

The Palazzo Davanzati (Museum of Florentine Home) is free. Check the museum website since it's only open certain days and times.
The view from Piazzale Michelangelo is free . . . and priceless. The view from Fiesole costs one local bus ticket. |

Most churches are free; Santa Croce now charges to go inside.
I wouldn't pass up the chance to see what you want because it costs money. Try to cut expenses elsewhere such as lodging, buying bottled water, sitting in cafes, etc. |
dont miss San Lorenzo Market. There are many outside stalls plus some wonderful ones inside. Dont forget your camera. Good people watching. There are locals and tourist both.
