suggestions for show to watch in Prague
 

Hello,
I've been reading about Prague's performances but can't find a decent website that would give me details. I would love to get a taste, not an opera, of the theatre scene--dance, musical, or even a play (in English).
Any suggestions is appreciated. We will be there in August for the first time.

When you are in Prague you will be inundated with people handing out handbills in public advertising all kinds of concerts, dances, and plays.

You also see notices plastered all over the walls of Prague advertising cultural performances.

You will have no shortage of cultural venues once you arrive in Prague.

When I go to Prague, I go to what they are best at -- Czech opera and music, and Jiri Kylian of the ballet is an interesting choreographer. I don't go to Italian opera there, although they probably do that well. I wouldn't go to Prague to hear English musicals, what's the point. However, they might have some, although I think most are sung in Czech with perhaps English surtitles.

If you go to the town hall you can get a complete list of all of the official perfrormances - and costumed touts will hand out flyers for many other venues for all types of music. Not aware of any plays done in English - but who knows?

I woould agree with what the others have said ,but as an alternative there are a couple of places that do folklore evenings,music,singing dancing,a meal,drink and transportation for an all in one price .I have been to two of these over the many vivits I have made to Prague and both were most enjoyable.

I will be in Prague from the 23rd-30th of this month so may take a look at it,though I am mainly there for the Beer festival which is out in the northern suburbs of the city.
Christina has given you the website for Bohemiatickest,I have used them several times in the past for booking Opera and concerts and they have delivered them to my accommodation for a small fee,I can highly reccommend them.

Prague is known more for classical music than live theater. Are you also a fan of classical music? If so, go hear one of the best orchestras in the world: the Czech Philharmonic (in the gorgeous Rudolfinum concert hall). You'll hear music as good as (if not better) than the NY Philharmonic at the MEt for about 1/3 the price.
