Suggestions for second trip to Ireland?
 

We loved Ireland, and are happy to return, as part of a longer adventure. For this trip, we'll have 6 or 7 nights to stay between Shannon & Dublin (not including our time in Dublin), and will have a car. On our last trip, we stayed in Clifden, Ennis, Kenmare, Kinsale, Kilkenny, & Dublin, and got to see Cong, Connemara, the cliffs of Moher, the Burren, the ring of Kerry, and, of course, the Jameson distillery! We love the small villages, and nightly music in the pubs. I'm thinking the Dingle peninsula, and Waterford - any other suggestions? Thanks, Maria

We also based ourselves in Bantry for 3 nights and visited Beara, Sheep's Head and Mizen Head. A beautiful part of the country with few tourists. We very much enjoyed our stay at Bantry House.

I like Wicklow, not so much Waterford. Did you go to Cork and Cobh?

There is much to see and do if you want to build an itinerary on the places you mention. After Dingle, you might like to try the Beara Peninsula, and perhaps visit some parts of West Cork that you bypassed last time (e.g. Glengarriff, Bantry, Baltimore).

Cobh, on Cork Harbour, is picturesque in an "old port" way, and there are nice things to see nearby, like Fota.

Personally, I don't greatly like Waterford City, but there are lovely small towns and villages in West Waterford, places like Ardmore and Lismore. To the east of Waterford you find plenty to see - Hook head with its ancient lighthouse, Tintern Abbey, Duncannon Fort, and much else. I see that area as a "quiet" landscape but with much of historical interest.

Then you can turn north and head for Dublin, coming off the main road to go over the highly scenic Wicklow Mountains on the way.

Thanks so much for the always helpful responses. Looks like we're doing 3 nights in Dingle or Bantry, then 2 in Lismore, then the last 2 maybe around Wexford? Any other suggestions that will get us on the way to Dublin?

The famine ship "Dunbrody" in New Ross is worth a visit.
