Suggestions for hikes in Bernese Oberland

Hello Fellow Travelers,

I will spend 5 nights/4 full days in Murren in late Sep/early Oct and am looking for hiking suggestions. Specifically, hikes with a 3-5 mile length.

We’ll certainly do the Mannlichen-Kleine Sheidegg hike, which sounds lovely. About how long will it take to go from Murren to Mannlichen via Wengen to start that hike?

Bonus points for hikes that start in Murren, but of course we can take transport to other starting points (Wengen, Lauterbrunnen, etc.).

We’re also planning to see Trummelbach Falls. In a different post, someone suggested a "sweet walk along a bubbly stream few miles to Lauterbrunnen, passing Trummelbach Falls en route" (thank you PalenQ!) which sounds wonderful.

What other hikes of modest length and with great views should we consider?

(I should mention I searched the forum for hikes in the Bernese Oberland and got overwhelmed by the large amount of results so if anyone knows of a particular post that has relevant information, I'd love to know.)

Thank you for any suggestions!

Here are some of the websites we used when planning our Lauterbrunnen stay and hikes.

From Murren it would probably take around 1 hr to get to the start of the Mannlichen Hike. Take the train from Murren and catch the cable car down to Lauterbrunnen. Cross the street and catch the train to Wengen. In Wengen catch the cable car up to Mannlichen to start the hike/walk. Not strenuous, with gorgeous vistas.

The Trummelback falls should not be missed..outstanding.

A few we like:

Wengen:

The walk to Hunnenfluh, which begins near the Hotel Belvedere. This is an easy walk for the most part, but it does get a wee bit steep towards the end. Fabulous views of the valley, Wilderswil and Interlaken. You can return to Wengen via the ‘alternate route’, turning right at Ledi and then working your way back to the village (total walk time, 1:15 with photo stops, just under 2.5 miles).

Also from Wengen, and can be done in the same day:

The walk to Staubbachbankli, which begins near the Hotel Baren, in the opposite direction of the Hunnenfluh. It ends on a ledge overlooking the Staubbach Falls and the valley below. Fabulous views. You can see Murren perched up on the mountain terrace across the way – (total walk time, 1:15, 2.5 miles)

Also from Wengen:

Walk to Leiterhorn. The path begins near the Hotel Jungfraublick and steeply climbs to the woods, then winds through forest and meadow. It ends at a viewpoint overlooking the Lauterbrunnen valley and Interlaken, and the views from up here are pretty incredible - (total walk time 90 minutes, 2.8 miles return).

From Murren - take the funicular to Allmendhubel, follow signs for the North Face Trail - 4-5 miles, moderate

Murren Panoramaweg - 2 km, easy - fab views

Grutschalp-Winteregg-Murren - take the train to Grutschalp, and walk back to Murren - you'll be facing the mountains on your return - 4.5 km

The walk from Trummelbach Falls to Lauterbrunnen is simple -- as I recall, there's only one path (other than the road). Basically, you are walking from one end of a valley to the other.

Another possible walk: From Mannlichen, walk to Gipfel and back; take the cable car to Holenstein, walk to Brandegg.
