Suggestions for getting from Florence to Marseilles.

There doesn't appear to be a direct flight, so how would you do it ?

Maybe take the train to Rome 1.5 hour and catch a flight from there?

There aren't any flights from Rome, either, that I can find. Any flight would take you well out of your way, I'm afraid (Brussels or Cologne, after a train to the Pisa airport, not that far from Florence). Your best bet might be a train; there's nothing direct, or even only one change, but it can be done in about 11 hours (the best way to minimize time might be to take the night train from Pisa to Nice, then a train from Nice to Marseilles, saves you a night in a hotel, though it's only a bit over 6 hours on the night train, so you won't get a great night's sleep. But it might be better than taking 11 hours out of a day). bahn.de has the timetables, click on English.

Yeah, take the boat, that'll be fun and not as boring as an 11 train ride. I'd go for the boat.

Can I be nosey? Out of curiousity, why are you going to Marseilles? It was the only city that I would have skipped.....by the way, I hope you know that on city buses, you need to keep your used bus ticket until you get off...just incase "the bus police" (i dot know their real name) get on the bus to check to make sure you paid for your ride. We got "carded" and were okay, but i heard the fine is 51 euros.

There is a daily flight from Rome to Marseille... AF 5098 at 12:25

I'd certainly opt for getting to Rome and flying, rather than train. And Marseille is worth a short visit.
