Suggestions for first night outside of Dublin
 

Two of us are arrive at Dublin and we have rented a car for a week. We want to get out of Dublin the first day. Any suggestion for a "first stop" village not too far away (1 1/2 - 2hours)?

Which way do you want to head? It will make a big difference.

We'll be heading south - and circle back to Dublin a week later.

We did a similar thing... rented a car and headed out for a week, ending up back in Dublin. Here's our route : Dublin (night 1) - Waterford - Cashel (night 2) - Killarney (night 3) - Dingle (night 4) - Spanish Point (night 5) - Cliffs of Moher - the Burren - Clifden (night 6) - Kylemoore - Dublin (night 7).

We did not spend much time in the areas surrounding Dublin bec we knew we would be back on future trips for business. Out of the areas we subsequently saw, I would say that Glendalough was my favorite and I wouldn't have minded spending some time there.

I would stay in wicklow and not tire yourself out. You could drive to Avoca or down to Laragh near Glendo,ough and spend the next day walking around.

I agree with Siobhan. You may be fine, but you <i>might</i> be a little loopy from jet lag. Wicklow is close and it's got enough to see that you won't feel like you should have moved on to &quot;better&quot; things.

Stop at Glendalough on the way south for a walk and look about. Or Brittas Bay if you want to walk on the beach. Or Mount Usher Gardens if you're into that kind of thing.

Then head to Avoca and your room at the Glendale B&amp;B. (Built as a B&amp;B with great breakfasts.) Have dinner at the Woodenbridge Hotel just up the road. And a pint or two later at Fitzgerald's (mad with tourists during the day but given over to the locals in the evening.) The area is the setting for the television show 'Ballykissangel' and is very green and scenic.

If you're looking for a nice hotel, I'd highly recommend Tinakilly House Hotel in Rathnew - just outside Wicklow town.

How about Hunter's Hotel in Rathnew? Not as posh as Tinakilly but very comfortable.

Go to Powerscourt - spend some time there viewing the gardens - and then head to Glendalough. You can easily spend several hours at Glendalough which is one of the most charming and peaceful places that I have ever been to. Find a good B&amp;B nearby and stay there.

we travelled to glendalough first day of our trip (had lunch at avoca hand weavers ,lovely craft centre and fab food). Travelled coast route to wexford. Stayed in a super B&amp;B &quot;ballygarran house&quot; (check out a site www.wexfordweb.com we got B&amp;B from there.) There were lovely beaches there and opening scenes from &quot;saving private Ryan&quot; were filmed on one of those beaches. Wexford town was very quaint , great shops ,pubs with traditional music, and restaurants. we ate lunch in a lovely italian &quot;la dolce vita&quot; . ended up staying 3 days in wexford visiting New Ross and Waterford before returning to UK.
