Suggestions for Europe this summer?

I am trying to paln a trip to Europe for this August. It has to be August due to our work schedules. All I keep hearing is how hot Spain is during the summer and this has become somewhat discouraging. So I am trying to come up with an alternative. Any suggestions?

Hi JB,

Youo'd better decide quickly, before all the hotels are full and the airfare gos up.

Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Switzerland, the Dolomites, the Austrian Alps come to mind.

Yes - hundreds. But what sorts of things do youwant to see/do? Give us some help here.

Just a few places I personally would avoid - most of Spain, Rome and much of Italy, Paris, Edinburgh (it would be perfect but unfortunately every room is probably full for August)

But in order to really help, we need more info from you . . . . .

Whatever you like to do, Scotland probably has it and it's not so hot. There's gorgeous scenery, quaint villages, historic castles and manor houses, and wonderful cities.

Provence might be nice too, but probably very crowded. . .

I have been to Amsterdam, Paris, Venice, around the lake in Switzerland all in Augusts past. I've hit heatwaves in Venice and Montreux but certainly never anything that made me regret my trip.
