Suggestions for elegant romantic Paris hotel in Paris
 

It would be for this January. My sister and her husband want to spend a few days there for their 30th anniversary. Their budget is about $500/night. They have never stayed in Paris before.

They are also looking for some nice restaurant suggestions for that special meal.

Take a look at the Hôtel le Madison, our favorite. It's a 3* only because it doesn't have room service for other than breakfast, but everything else is more like a 4* in terms of appointments, comfort, and room size. The rooms facing the Blvd. St-Germain are the best, especially the corner ones.

The hotel's location is superb; it's within walking distance of the Louvre, the Orsay, and other attractions. Good restaurants are nearby. For that special meal, however, I'd recommend the romantic Lasserre in the 8th.

What's the budget?

Dinner budget, I'm guessing around $100-150pp including wine.

My guess is that they'll have a couple of high-end meals, then the rest at some nice 'local' places.

I'm not much of any help because the last time I was there, I was with my kids, who were picky eaters at the time, and we also were on more of a budget.

Also take a look at Hotel D'Aubusson on rue dauphine. We stayed there in July and loved it.

The hotel has beautifully appointed rooms and a few apartments which are quite deluxe with original beamed ceilings and separate hall entryways. Many nights, a jazz trio plays in the downstairs bar. Service is excellent, and the buffet breakfast is very good.

The hotel is very central for exploring Paris. The Latin Quarter is a few blocks away, as is all the shopping of St. Germaine. Le Louvre is a 15 minute walk, same for Notre Dame, 20-min for Musee D'Orsay.

Could not agree more with prior post. Hotel D'Aubusson is great, great location for easy shopping, steps away from the Buci-Rue de Seine Market. Very nice ground floor bar with jazz combo or piano and vocalist. The Madison is OK, nice to have St. Germain des Pres to wake up to if you have a front room. For $500 per night would research an apartment on Ile St Louis?

I used to love Relais Christine, and stayed there many times. But there are a couple of problems: rooms vary considerably in size and quality, and the rate has gone sky-high.

So last summer we stayed at Hotel d'Aubusson instead. It's basically the same location ( just around the corner from Relais Christine), but the room quality and service are much, much better.

Interesting comments about Relais Christine, a magazine this month listed it in its Top 500 hotels in the world list.
The D'Aubusson also has variation in room sizes, but I loved the hotel.
That dinner budget for a special meal unfortunately isn't as generous as it used to be given the euro to dollar ratio. They might squeak by at my old favorite Le Violon d'Ingres, but with wine probably not.
You can have a lovely meal at Le Coup-Chou, 9 rue de Lanneau, in the 5th, near the Pantheon.
