suggestions for day hikes in the Bavarian Alps

Does anyone have suggestions for day hike destinations in the Bavarian Alps accessible by train from Munich? Weather permitting, something that will offer views of the peaks and general alpine scenery. Thanks.

Accessible by traiin only (not by bus)? In Bavaria only?
Obviously Garmisch Partenkirchen.and Mittenwald, may be Fuessen im Allgaeu or Oberstdorf im Allgaeu

Thanks neckervd. Bus is fine. Could be outside of Bavaria but doable as a day trip from Munich.

This should get you started:

I've personally hiked from the Jenner, around Berchtesgaden, and around Lake Eibsee. I'll take a look at some old trip reports for specifics.

Thanks Mel. Appreciate this. Do you think Berchtesgaden is too far for a day trip from Munich?

Looks like it's about 1:45 by car, quite a bit longer by train. We stayed in Berchtesgaden, forgot you were day tripping from Munich.

You could combine a trip up the Zugspitze and the walk around Eibsee if so inclined. We did this one year in December; it took about two hours.

We also took this hike from Garmisch one year, really enjoyed it:

I've also had this hike on my radar for sometime, but have yet to take it:

Thanks again Mel. Fingers crossed the weather will permit a view of the mountains. Heading there later this week. The itinerary is set except for this; hard to resist some time in the Alps as we would be so close.

Have a good trip - fingers crossed for good weather!

I second the idea of heading to Garmish. It's a fast direct ride by train or bus from Munich, and there is good bus service in the Garmish area.
There are many, many day hike opportunities. I highly recommend taking one of the cable cars up a ski lift - there are several with base stations right in Garmish. Eckbauerbahn, Graseckbahn (small/historc), or Wankbahn. I've hiked on Eckbauer and Wank before, but not Graseck.

All 3 mountains have lots of trails at the summit if you want to do all your hiking up there, and well marked paths down the mountain if you want to do that.
I like to use alltrails.com / phone app to find trails and plan out a trek.

If you are in Garmisch, it would be a shame not to hike the Partnachklamm. It is really spectacular.
