Suggestions for accommodations very close to Siena, but not exactly in the city?

I am having trouble finding a nice, (scenic)country inn or similar that is close to (10km or less) to Siena. Most places I've found on the Internet are either inside the city or half an hour away. Does anyone have recommendations for someplace in between? I have read practically every post related to Tuscany and found some great suggestions, but haven't come across any for "scenic lodging right outside of Siena". Any recommendations from the Italy experts would be appreciated!

At Quercegrossa, 8 km. north of Siena is the Villa Gloria, but I have not been inside to tell you about it.Just outside is the wonderful Certosa di Maggiano--a tiny, wonderful and quite pricey place. In Sovicille, 14km from Siena, is the Borgo Pretale and the Relais Borgo di Toiano.

Allesandra,
We stayed at the Villa Scacciapensieri a few weeks ago and just loved it--- it is about 2 miles north of the city but with easy access by car, bus or taxi into town-- the surroundings are lovely and we had a very charming room overlooking the countryside.. As we were driving north we stopped into the Villa Gloria which seemed very nice-- I did not see the rooms however. Good Luck
Mary

Dear Fodors Members.
Speaking of Siena, we will be in that area in October, and have booked at the
Park Hotel Siena, walking distance to the city center. Has anybody stayed there, and how did you like it???
Thanks

Mary,
I stayed at the Park hotel in Siena. It's quite nice, with a gorgeous breakfast buffet (of course, I remember the food!). The public areas of the hotel are very tasteful; my room had plenty of amentities (minibar, safe, remote controls, etc.) If you are going around Chianti, I can also recommend Relais Fattoria Vignale in Radda in Chianti (tel. 0577/738300 and fax 0577/738592); the rooms are cozy but charming (with candles, wood trim, and wrought-iron) and there is a pool on the pretty grounds.

Enjoy Siena!

Caragh
