Suggestions for a home base in western Ireland?

We are planning a family trip for my mother-in-law's first trip to Ireland. There will likely be 6 adults and one infant, so we think renting a home/apartment and making day trips will be easiest. Since this is her first trip, we would like to do some of the "standard" sites - ROK, Dingle, ruins/castles and, knowing our family, lots of pubs. Does anyone have any suggestions on a charming home base close to these sites? Many thanks!

Depending on the time of year, Killorglin, Co. Kerry (30 minutes NW of Killarney, 1 hour from Dingle town). Great little town, GREAT golf and located ON the Ring of Kerry.

If you are looking for lots of pubs then Dingle could be the place. It's a pretty market town bustling with great pubs, food etc. and is well located for numerous activities. I don't know any houses in particular but this looks nice: http://www.stayindingle.com/

Maybe not in your wheelhouse, but I rented a cottage in West Cork and daytripped in around lower Ireland.

It is right by the ocean in a town called 'Clonakilty"

It might fit what you need.

Kenmare is also a fairly centrally located spot. It's at the bottom end of the Ring of Kerry, and not so far from Dingle that you can't do a long day trip. It's also close enough to the Ring of Beara and Cork to do day trips there, as well. It's also a charming town with lots of great food
