Suggestions for a day trip into Germany from Strasbourg

My husband and I will be in Strasbourg for 4 nights in early May. We will have our rental car in time to take a day trip into Germany before going to our gite in Ribeauville.

We have never been to Germany and did want to visit some German towns near Strasbourg. Baden-Baden seems to be the most suggested day trip by train. I was wondering if there were other suggestions when traveling by car. We aren't interested in the casino or the spas so would you suggest a full day in Baden-Baden?

Thanks for any help, Deborah

Hi; A full days trip by major highway, is Freiburg, perhaps 60 miles. On the way back, you could then cross back into France and go to Colmar. Another thought is Tubingen, thru the black forest. About 1 1/2 hours each way. A closer town to Strasbourg thru the black forest is Rottweil. Maybe 30 miles. You could do Rottweil, then head north to Tubingen. Just look at a map and decide. Thanks Iris, when we stay at our gite I plan to take one day to visit the area around Freiburg. I'm not at all familiar with Germany so am using travel books and of course Fodorites to help me plan our day out of Strasbourg. Thanks, Deborah

Sasbachwalden and Gengenbach - both much closer to Strasbourg.
Take the Badische Weinstrasse.

perhaps an option: worms, speyer and/or heidelberg are 1.5 hours from strasbourg on the autobahn. karlsruhe is another lively city with a very interesting layout (1 hr from strasbourg).

Thank you for the suggestions. I think a small town like Gengenbach would be good for our first visit to Germany. Thanks again, Deborah
