Suggestions for 4-5 days in Provence/Cannes!

I will be in the south April 24th- 29th/30th and would love some suggestions as to what to do and see. I have been to Cannes/St. Tropez several times, but it has been a while and I am going with my husband this time around. I am very interested in spending time in Provence (western) --If money were not much of an object, what would you suggest? Where would you stay (open to hotels or luxury b and b's)? We are thinking about renting a car -- thoughts?

Thank you in advance!!!

Hi Couture! I know that there are so many ppl better to tell you the best places to go, but since no one has replied as of yet, I think Provence is a great choice! You only have 4 days? Where are you flying into? If it's the south ( Marsielles or Montpielier) would be the obvious choice of airports. We like the later, as it is smaller and very easy-peasy car pick up. Aix-en-Provence would be a good base. Since we are always travelling "best for the money", I can't advise where to stay there. It's has an old time feel, with a nice vibe. Market days and great shopping.
What are your interests, though. I'm sure there will be plenty of advise when you let the forum know these points.Happy travels.

We LOVED this peoperty in Le Pontet, just outside of Avignon. We picked up a car at the Avignon TGV station. Now I have to say that Avignon was not our favorite town, but this was a good location to tour out of. We had a luxury room in the garden by the pool for 3 nights. The resturant was fabulous.

The property is located in a residential area and doesn't look like much from the outside, then the surprise----gorgeous rooms, garden dining room, etc.

I don't know if this is the location you are looking for, but I thought I'd throw it out there. We've done most of the places east of Avignon, so will probably stay west of there on our next visit.

I wish I could come up with a fabulous place I remember a Fodorite posting (maybe gracejoan??) that was sort of in a cave.

I have to agree with ctoner that there are so many Fodorites better to advise on this area----anyone, anyone?

Write to [email protected] and he will be glad to send you his 27 page itinerary of his many trips to the South of France. This will give you plenty of ideas to start with.

I prefer an apartment even if there's just two of us. Try RivieraPebbles.com or Ownersdirect.com to see if you would like to try an apartment instead of a hotel.
