Best way to get from Manchester Airport to Chester.
Hi there, Just looking for the best way to get from Manchester Airport to Chester. I will only be going for one night and then back again the next day so probably not worth it to hire a car. Is there a train? Will I need to get into the centre of Manchester to catch a train? Any help would be gratefully appreciated!!

There are some direct trains to Chester from the airport but most will require you to change in the centre Manchester - this is just a case of going from one platform to the other. Typically takes about 90 minutes
See Nationalrail.co.uk

Yes, there is.
Have a look at http://www.nationalexpress.com/coach...anchester.aspx
It seems to drop you off at Chester Zoo, but you can easily get a bus or taxi from there to the centre of town

"there's a direct coach right from the airport to Chester. "
Yes. But only about three a day.
Whereas there's three trains an hour, each with one change at one of Crewe, Manchester Oxford Rd or Liverpool Lime St.
To be honest, the footballers' wives round Chester all get to the airport in their 4WD BMWs

Checked National Express schedule.... 4 buses a day to down town Chester (opposite Cathedral) 55 minute journey stops at zoo en route.
Thank you for posting this because I haven't been to the Wirral for a while and found going via Liverpool more than tedious.
(also glad you liked Abbeyglen Castle!!)

Hey everyone, thanks a million for all the advice. My flight gets in at 10.10 so that leaves me just ten minutes to get the National express which is really cutting it too fine I think. The next one isn't until 4 in the afternoon, so it looks like it's the train for me. There are plenty of options with that. For the way back, I might try and cadge a lift of one of those footballers wives in their BMW!!!!!!! Tenaya- glad you agree on Abbeyglen!
Thanks again everyone!
