Suggestions for 3.5 day Sicilily Itinerary

A friend and I are landing in Palermo Thursday night, and have Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and most of Monday. Our flight is 8:35PM Monday night out of Palermo. We would like to see as many of the majors sights as possible. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do and recommendations on what is feasible to accomplish in this time please let me know. Thanks.

It would help to know when you are going and what interested you in sicily.

Without more to go on, I would recommend picking up a car at the airport and driving straight to Erice. Stay 2 nts in Erice, take time to wander and see this very interesting and ancient town. Also visit the salt pans in Trapani or perhaps Marsala whichever is more interesting to you. Now your day is done.

On the way back to the airport to drop your car, visit Lo Zingaro Preserve or Segesta temple site whichever interests you.

Bus to Palermo and spend your remaining time there. Much to see.

3.5 days is extremely limited for Sicily. I had 3.5 WEEKS and it was not enough!

Thanks for your response. It's probably too expensive for us to rent a car (college kids studying abroad on a budget). Are you familiar with public transportation in the area? We would like to see Agrigento if possible, and see some of the places you suggested as well. I understand that our time is limited, so I guess I need to do some further reading on how feasible it is to see more than just Palermo.

Palermo has more than enough things to do reachable by public transportation. Norman Palace and Chapel, a nice old Cathedral in the City. Monreale, another abbey, easily reachable by bus. Train to Cefalu' for the day for more Norman stuff and a beach. A really interesting market.

Do look at public transportation to Agrigento, but my feeling is that it is too far to reach in the amount of time you have.

Tripadvisor has the following on what to do with three days in Sicily: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Guide-g18...88-Sicily.html It includes Agrigento But those are more on the east of the Island. If you could fly to Siracusa. . .

Buon Viaggio!

There is indeed public transport, not sure how long it would take to get to Agrigento. I would base in Palermo, one afternoon for must-not-be-missed Monreale, day trip to Erice via Trapani, day trip to Cefalu.

As Dayle says, three and a half days for Sicily is hardly even an appetizer. If you are on a budget it seems a waste of money to go to Sicily and then turn right around and leave.

Just enough time to see Palermo and Monreale---maybe a day trip to Cefalu by train.
