Suggestions Algarve beachfront hotel?

I am looking for a new or recently renovated 5 star beachfront hotel in a town with character and lots of restaurants. My research has yet to uncover any that hit the spot. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hi!

Currently stayed Tivoli Carvoeiro, it's 4 stars.

It's going to be hard to find a beachfront; but the hotel is right on a cliff and very short distance to stunning beach.

My favorite was waking up and hearing the breeze, the picure on #1 on this list:

Hope this helps!

you do understand that the European star rating system is different from the US system?

Cliff top or protected by sand bars are going to be more likely due to geography.

Bela Vista, Praia da Rocha
Crowne Plaza, Vilamoura
Vidamar Resort, Albufeira
Pestana Alvor Praia Beach & Golf, Alvor

Not beachfront, but close
Real Marina, Olhão
Cascade Wellness & Lifestyle Resort, Lagos
Salgados Dunas Suites, Albufeira

and so many more 5* hotels ...

There is no "European" star rating system, each country has their own requirements. There isn't any official system in the US. And I would think in all countries, a 5* hotel is going to be one of the most luxury establishments around, so I wouldn't worry about supposed differences in the star rating system, if that is what you want -- the top hotel in the area-- as I don't believe there is any official star rating system that gives out 6*.

Several years ago we stayed at the Sheraton Algarve Hotel in Albufeira. It is not right in the town of Albufeira, which we preferred, but it right on the beach, has a golf course, and there were two restaurants across the road from Hotel which we frequented often. I understand the Hotel has had renovations recently with more to be scheduled.

Ah Christina you are both right and wrong. There is a clear shape to the European "system" that is different to that for the US "system".

Basically in Europe the provision of functionality is the key, so having a lift may "lift" a hotel up a star level
