Suggestions about a trip to Spain and Portugal

Me and my wife are planning to travel to Spain in May this year. Our trip inside the Iberica Peninsula will be done by train, and rent a car. I know they have a combination ticket in EurailPass, but I am not sure about the most economical and best way to travel. I am planning to visit Madrid- Barcelona- Santiago de Compostela- Valencia- Sevilla- Lisboa- and the Canaria, as is Mallorca. If you live in Spain and could help me about it, or you did have a similar experience before, please advise us what to do, or who to contact in order to make this trip a very beautiful one. Thank You!!

We are planning to do the same trip to Spain only later this year. I have checked on the price of tickets on the train, and have decided that the Spanish rail pass and the Europass are not worth it. We plan to just buy tickets for each trip. A lot of trains only have second class and the tickets are cheap. The best web site to plan your train travel is the timetables section of the German Railways page, which also covers Spain and Portugal, but doesn't have prices. It's at www.bahn.de For some prices, check out the RENFE home page.

I am truly jealous. Lisboa is my favorite city in the whole world (so far). Just two recommendations that will knock your socks off but not your wallet:
Dinner at La Cervejaria de Trinidad. And a quick trip up to Castillo Dos Mouros in Sintra for the afternoon.

City done. And please, please take your time.

I'm still there in spirit.

Does anyone have any suggestions for touring the wine growing areas of spain? Do they offer tours and tasting, as in the USA? What are the best places to visit?

I visited two bodegas in Jerez, the home of sherry. They were big places with conducted tours, and a small tasting at the end. You had to reserve a place the day before, at the tourist information centre, or you could ring them yourselves if you speak basic Spanish. They spoke some English on the tour.
