Suggestion for hotel close to Train station in Cologne?

Thinking of stopping 1 night in Cologne on way to Munich. Any suggestions as to a hotel close to train station? We will be traveling by train from Amsterdam. If that makes a difference. Would like something budget to mid-price that includes breakfast. Thanks for the help.

Well, there is an Ibis *in* the station, right across from the travel center. Ibis aren't quaint or full of character, but practical and good value for money. If you decide not to take the hotel's breakfast, the station has a large food hall and you have many choices for breakfast in there.

Lallie,

The Ibis Koeln am Dom is directly IN the train station. Never stayed there, but should be clean and it's airconditioned.

BTW, the train station is located right in the heart of the city, directly across from the cathedral and 2 major museums, so this is an excellent location, period.

Hope this helps,
Andre

I've stayed at the Ibis in the Koeln station. Not a bad place at all. My room had a great view of the Dom.

We stayed in a hotel at the station too..can't remember the name but maybe it was the Ibis. It was fine, reasonable price and near the cathedral...can't remember if it had breakfast but if not the station breakfast is fine.

Thanks to all of you. I will check into the Ibris. Would you recommend reservations first part of September. We do not have definite plans for the week before we need to be in Munich, so we're hoping to get rooms after we arrive, in case we are running behind and have to go directly to Munich. Right now we think we will be in Cologne. Any others hotels that I should check out in case this is full? You all seem to be in agreement on the Ibris. I sure will check it out. Thanks again for your help. I appreciate it.

Last year, we stayed at Comfort Hotel Central am Dom. It is about 2-3 blocks from train station and across the street from the cathedral (I think it is just around the corner). It was comfortable and had an extensive breakfast buffet. I believe our twin room rate (Oct 2003) was 106Euro.

The 3* Park Plaza on Clevischer Ring is about 10 minutes from the hbf. We got a huge triple there with ample breakfast for $70 in June.
