Suggested Dutch towns?
We're driving from Amsterdam to Antwerp, and would like to stop and sightsee in some quaint Dutch towns on the way down. I've already been to Delft, Haarlem, Leiden, Utrecht, and I think Den Hague is too modern. Any other suggestions? I've been thinking about Gouda.

Maastricht still has a little medieval feel.

Steve

Hi

Maastricht may well have "a little medieval feel".

As it is close to Aachen on the German border, it is nowhere near the route from Amsterdam to Antwerp !

I don't know much about Gouda, but Breda has an old centre worth looking at.

Peter
http://tlp.netfirms.com

Have you visited the windmills at Kinderdijk? You could combine this with Dordrecht which is a very pretty town. And I agree about Breda, although it's rather small.
Den Bosch ('s-Hertogenbosch) is another pretty town, but it's not really on the way.

Take a look at Volendam and Marken (north of Amsterdam I think) and Schoonhoven (ouside Rotterdam). I also liked Delft and Den Haag.

Have you thought of going to Brugge in Belgium? I think it may be a bit out of your way - but of course, that depends on your time constraints...and the fact that it isn't Dutch!

I like Maastricht as well but it is far removed from the others mentioned.

You've been where I have, except that we spent a few hours at the sea shore near Haarlem. Not quaint. Could have been Florida (except far windier and cooler), but it was a nice place to have a drink near the (a) ocean (for a couple midwesterners). Quick train from Haarlem; don't know about driving. Agree with you about Den Hague.

I agree about the area near Dordrecht. The town is one of the few remaining walled cities in the area. There are a few small museums there and a great market day. It is close to Kinderdijk and also the last large area of marshes remaining (can't remember the name). They were used by the resistance during WWII to hide in and plan their plots against the germans. Good biking, too.

Edam, for a quaint little town, even if there are no specific atractions there.
