Suggested Driving Route from Venice to Vienna

I plan to start early from Venice and drive to Vienna in one day. Any suggestions on best driving route for mobile sites and perhaps a stop or two?

More interesting to stay in Austria or pass through Slovenia?

Thanks!

Google Maps says 6 hours plus stops-via Austria. Look at the Worther See for possible stops.

I would suggest you driving through Slovenia in direction Ljubljana - Maribor - Vienna. Postojna undergroud cave, Ljubljana and wine region around Maribor are very nice to visit. Especially in the summer time.

Enjoy your trip.

While the driving through Slovenia will certainly be nice, it will also be incredibly slow; I'm not even sure whether you'd make it in time to Vienna.
The obvious route is Venice - Udine - Tarvisio - Villach - Klagenfurt - Graz - Vienna. One part of this freeway is extremely unpleasant (between Feldkirchen and Graz), and another one rather unpleasant (between Hartberg and Seebenstein): winding mountain freeways that don't quite allow for freeway style driving, so take your time. But all in all, 6 hours is realistic - plus stops and plus the time that you need for driving into Vienna (about half an hour, depending on where you're headed). Remember that it's impossible to leave Venice as early as you would elsewhere (leaving the city by boat is time-consuming). If you leave early enough, nonetheless, to stop en route, Udine is one possibility, or Cividale del Friuli, few kilometres away, an even better choice; in Austria, Graz is pretty enough to stop there; each of those stops would cost you two hours approximately.

Oh well, typo alert, once more: driving through Slovenia...

Doesn't leave you much time to stop along the way.

Why spend two hours in one city when you can see the whole world in two hours ;-)

And whatever route you choose, don't forget to buy the toll sticker for the motorways in Austria
