Suggest a French country town outside of Paris

Jump to last reply

Going to have nine days in France in June,. Flying JFK to Paris, where we will stay for a few days.

After Paris, we are looking to board a train, let's say a 2-3 hour ride? (more is okay, but we want to take the train, not fly) Can someone recommend a country town where we can go?

What we're looking for:
* Small town, aesthetic beauty
* Would like to be in the type of small town where we can ride bikes to the wine store, butcher, etc.
* Some fun excursions in the area that would allow us to check out some history, or some culture.
* Cycling would be good. And we like good food.

I personally love the alps, but i think the wife will say no. I'm thinking we'd like a small charming town fairly close to Paris. Does anybody have any recommendations of where we can go? What towns?
