Cigale--thanks for the restaurant recommendation. It looks great! Unfortunately, we will not be in Uzes for the Saturday market.

When you say the Camargue is a must visit, are you referring to Aigues-Mortes, which looks intriguing, or the wetlands? Rick Steves and Frommers panned the wetlands.

Nothing is really a must visit if you aren't that interested in what it is to begin with. While I don't always agree with Rick Steves (he has his biases, he doesn't like "culture" very well, for example), I think you can read enough about the Camargue to know if that is something you must reserve time for on your trip. I've visited lots of places like that in various countries (wetlands, marshes, flamingos, nature preserves, etc.), so it's up to you whether that would be top on your list of must sees during a visit to France.

digbydog, both. I stayed two nights in Aigues-Morte
and visited the santuary. There are platform postss where you can view the wild white horses, the black bulls and pink flamingos, I wish you a wonderful trip.. Whatever you decide

We stayed at La Taverne in Uzes. It was wonderfully located. Got a terrific deal at the Tourist Office in town (we were there in November 2010). You may want to look at some photos that link is supposed to work, according to Facebook -- there are only 33 photos, and numbers 3 through 7 or so are Uzes. The rest are other locations/experience in Languedoc/Roussillon. Which could be your next trip

Thanks everyone. I am torn about the Camargue. Aigues Morte sounds really interesting, and the white horses, bulls, and flamingos sound good too--different than other wetlands I've visited. I think I would skip Arles or Avignon (having seen them before) and visit the Camargue if my husband and son weren't joining me. But I am wondering whether they should see those two cities. Also, I am a mosquito magnate, which means the Camargue could be problematic.

Uhoh--great photos! My son would drool over that hamburger! I'll check out La Taverne.
