Stuff to do on Sunday in Vienna/ visiting Salzkammergut area?

Hello Experts!

I studied abroad in Austria a while ago, and had a wonderful time, but I do remember Sundays being a bleak affair with almost everything being closed.

I will be in Austria again this July with a friend, and I will only be in Vienna for a Friday through Sunday. I really want to maximize my time by planning out what stuff I can do on SUNDAY. My ideas so far were to save my visit to Schonbrunn and the Zentralfriedhof for that day, but does anybody have any other ideas?

Also, my friend and I are thinking of spending Monday and Tuesday in Salzburg and/or the Hallstatt area. I have been to Salzburg, but not Hallstatt, and the last time I was in the area was in December. I am looking forward to seeing beautiful Austria again, and to being in the beautiful Salzkammergut in summer. Does anybody have any advice with fastest/cheapest transportation to that area from Vienna for two twenty-somethings?

Thanks in advance!!

Sundays in Vienna are certainly not bleak. Most all tourists sights are open. Thus for tourists fine opportunities.
Normal , non tourist shops are closed and perhaps just a few city center restaurants but most tourists would not miss these .
Naturally the State Opera and Volksoper are closed for summer vacation but numerous other music opprotunities exist.
One nice place for a summer evening is the square in front of the Rathaus City Hall.
There a free show each evening on a giant screen of music& opera etc. free /
also adjacent is an international food court with good offerings making for a nice night.
The Rathaus is on the Ringstrasse and very easy to reach.

Schonbrunn gets very busy on the weekends with bus day trips.
Consider buying a ticket on line in advance / no waiting to enter and maybe visit on Friday
Early morning or late afternoon see less crowds usually.

Zentralfriedehof visit anytime no problems/ quicker access via UBahn U/3 to end station Simmering and then streetcar \71 to stop Tor 2 / you probably remember that it has 3 stops on this line .

Liechtenstein Palace /Museum / nice to visit on a sunday as they often have nice concerts there on this day.
In Salzburg / Hallstatt a nice daz trip

And for one evening / a visit to a Heuriger wine tavern .

Bus/150 from bz train station that passes Fuschlsee and Wolfgangsee to Bad Ischl / a nice scenic ride .
At Bad Ischl train station / transfer to the local train for Hallstatt.
The train stop is on the opposite side of the Lake from the town.
A ferry meets the train for a cheap and beautiful transfer with great picture opportunities of the lake, village and mountains
