studying abroad
Hey everyone,
I am currently studying abroad in Paris until early December. I have about a week off at the end of October/early November. I was hoping to get ideas on where to go/what to do. I was thinking about going to Provence or maybe Switzerland but I am open for ideas! Also does anyone know of some good things to do in Europe (even better Paris) that are Christmas related? I love the holiday and back home we do a lot of stuff to get ready for it but since I will be away for a bit I will be missing some of it. |
You might not get as many replies, as you've said this is a trip report (and put a bit of a vague title). I don't really have any suggestions for your Toussaint trip since you haven't said anything about your interests!
Anyway, the obvious thing as far as Christmas goes is Christmas markets, particularly in Germany. Your week off will be too early, but if you have time after your course ends, you could go. For Paris, this website should help you out for dates for Christmas markets, illuminations and other Christmassy things: http://www.parisinfo.com/sortir-a-paris/noel-a-paris/ Just realised those are last years' dates, but should give you an idea & you can keep an eye out for updates |
You are presumably learning French, so I would stick to a French speaking area for the moment. Once your semester or year is over, do explore other parts of Europe.

Take a weekend off and visit Strasbourg. It has a huge Christmas market and is a delightful place to visit, completely different from Paris.

Another vote for Christmas markets. Germany is well know for them: http://www.germany-christmas-market.org.uk/
I'm not sure Provence is at its best during December. London is a quick ride away on the Eurostar www.eurostar.com book as far ahead as possible to get the best price. Strasbourg is a great suggestion as well, lovely at xmas time. |
