Student hangouts Limoges France

Hey, so I am visiting Limoges in July for a couple of days and I hear it is a student city!!!
Therefore I think it would be cool to meet and hangout with some of the local students and enjoy a few days of a student life.

Does anyone know any good student areas, hangouts, bars or cafes etc.?

I can't offer any specifics (bear with me, there is a point to this) for student places in Limoges, but in my experience (both as a student in France and on subsequent visits) if you head to an 'Irish' or 'English' pub in a French town of that size, nine times out of ten you'll find students drinking there.

You might be thinking that you'd prefer somewhere typically French, but these themed places are usually Irish in name only so will be full of and (usually) staffed by French people.

I've used this technique in towns such as Bordeaux, Grenoble, Paris and Lyon and it rarely fails. Once you've met some students in one such pub, you can ask for recommendations of less obvious places or possibly be invited to tag along with them.

Have fun!

Brilliant sounds great, I will use that tactic... as I am travelling alone it will be great to meet some new people, student town.. what better place to try meet students and like you say I may be invited to tag along which from my own experience students are always up for meeting new people. Thanks for your helpful advise because I really wouldn't have thought about visiting a Irish or English bar when in France.

My recollection of Limoges is that there is a street that is quite old and historic--and has a lot of eating places/restaurants, etc. Might be a starting point. It is a little way apart from the central business district. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Glad to be of service...

Another benefit I forgot to mention of going to an Irish or English themed pub is that sometimes the students who go to them are studying English and (not to besmirch your level of spoken French) will often be keen to chat in the language they are studying, which may be helpful to you.

I know I'm making myself sound like a horrible traveller, but I'm a huge francophile who went to study in France for a year, on my own, and used this technique to meet people of all nationalities. These pubs also often attract international students who have english as a common language, so if you don't meet French students, you may well meet other European students. I once spent an enormously fun couple of days with a group of Norwegians I met in one such pub, bar hopping and discovering the city (with no sleep) for two days.

Good times.

There won't be many students in Limoges in July. They'll be on holiday.
