stuck in Madrid for 6 days, or not...
Hola!,
For one reason or another, our current itinerary requires us to arrive in Madrid and then leave from madrid 6 days later. From all that I have read and heard, 6 Days in madrid is a bit of a wasted opportunity - can anyone suggest a 2-4 day return trip (Madrid to ?? to Madrid) that might fill in some of this time?

I would probably do what informa suggests, but I liked Madrid quite a bit. If you really want to go somewhere else several days, you could easily go to/from Seville for several days as the fast AVE train gets you there in a few hours. That will cost you, of course, as that train isn't super-cheap.

You can do what Informa suggests which would be probably make the most sense if you have not been to Madrid and/or the other townshe suggests. Another alternative would be to go for a couple of nights to Salamanca. You can go to Salamanca via train or express bus. It's approx. 2.5 hrs from Madrid.
I've been 6 days in Madrid (enjoyed it a lot) and did 2 day trips: Segovia and Toledo.

what time of year is this trip?
winter would be freezing in salamanca. summer boiling EVERYWHERE.. madrid.. toledo (ouch!).., segovia might be cooler at night. there is plenty to do around madrid for 6 days.. but if you need to get away..
in summer. go north to bilbao.. see guggenheim and old town, and give yourself a culinary present somewhere.( and pray they don't have a heat wave this year !).

winter.. do sevilla, or go down to valencia. both accessible by train. valencia also by a cheaper express luxury bus (be sure to ask for the EXPRESS).
