STROMBOLI blows its' top -- Sicily/Italy; Any volcano afficianados?
HOLY MOLY ~ this is what I call blowing one's top - Darn, missing great photo ops !!! After a couple trips to Costa Rica, I've developed a fascination with volcanoes. Was thinking about a visit to explore Sicily, Mt. Etna and the Aeolian Islands. I can't believe Stromboli is going & blowing without me !!! Anyone out there who's had an up close & personal experience with one of these volcanoes?

Hiked to the top of Vesuvius last month - what a rush! Actually, Vesuvius is NOT overdue, but it was smoking. When it goes, though, it will be a huge disaster. It was eery training back from Vesuvius to Sorrento - we were reading the history of Vesuvius and what towns had been destroyed time and again, as we were stopping at those very same towns.
