Stroller for Venice, Florence & Rome?
hello! One month until we leave for our Italian adventure!
I have a 3 yr old little guy. Sometimes he uses the stroller, sometimes he doesn't. I'm imagining a lot of walking during our trip, but I'm wondering whether taking the stroller is sensible for this trip? Your thoughts would be appreciated! Anita |
When our daughter was four, she still used a stroller sometimes so we brought a lightweight (but sturdier than an umbrella stroller)folding stroller and were glad we did. It was light enough for my husband and I to pick her up in it to carry over the steps on the bridges of Venice, yet the wheels were thick enough not to get caught all the time in the cobblestones. It had a basket at the bottom that was useful to put bags and such in but don't put anything valuable down there.

It sounds like it might be a good idea to have one. But- it must be a sturdy one with thick wheels - since you will be dealing with lots of cobblestones, small side streets with no sidewalk and lots of bridges in Venice.
Also - many museums/churches etc either don;t have elevators or have them hidden - so you may have to carry it upstairs there too. |
It seems like this topic has come up a few times and now I have something more specific to ask so I'll revive this old thread. I'd like to take a single stroller to Rome and Florence; I did use a fantastic one that took me all over Paris (only walked, never used the Metro). I'm concerned that the streets/pedestrian walkways are more cobbled and difficult to navigate -- is this correct?
And if you have brought a stroller successfully to Rome or Florence or both, can you please relay your thoughts and indicate which brand/model you used so I can compare with ours for size and ability to get around these two cities? Thanks so much! Anitajd -- are you still out there and can you share your experience with your 3 year old and your stroller? |
I can see a stroller being of benefit in Rome and Florence but I can't imagine dealing with one in Venice!
