strike update
looks like there is going to be a general strike on tuesday, june 3rd. my flight arrives in paris on the 3rd and now it might be cancled. called expedia.com and they told me i have to abide by the airline's refund policy. but the thing is, i also have two hotel reservations for paris and london... this is getting very frustrating.

Believe me, I feel your pain! We are almost in the same boat as you, except that we are scheduled to land on the 4th. Hoping things will be better by then, but there is certainly no guarantee of that. I don't know if you have contacted your airline as yet, but suggest you go to www.dgac.fr. Click on the box on the left that mentions "Greve." Scroll to the bottom of that page and click on "Vols des compagnies etrangeres" (assuming you are not flying Air France or another French airline). This is a list of flights that are supposed to be allowed to land and take off on June 3. You should still, of course, verify with your airline if you can get through to them.

No Betty1, it's not listed there! If I do take this trip, I just don't knwo how long I will be stuck! Do you know how likely this strike will affect the airline services? And if there is a strike, how long it will last?

Here's a bit from the Rick Steves website:
"French Strikes The following strikes have been announced: Monday, June 2nd at 8pm - June 3rd - (It is open ended, meaning it might go on after the 3rd) - Transportation strikes - in particular all SNCF (rail) and RATP (Paris Metro). Keep your eye on French news media and station postings as you travel. You may find these online resources useful before you leave: http://www.expatica.com/france.asp?p...;item_id=31504 http://www.iht.com/europe.html. During most rail strikes, sporadic trains lumber down the tracks, and the few remaining station personnel can tell you the expected schedule. While it is usually possible to get a refund for reservations affected by a strike (see instructions on the printed reservation), there is no refund for partially used railpasses." Sounds like all you can do is see if your airline can put you on a flight that will be allowed to land or postpone your trip a few days. Sorry. |
I found that list very complete..Just who and what are you flying?
