strike in venice

as anyone heard anything about the strike (24 hours) being called Fri 15 Sept? I was looking at the Venice card and there is a warning about the strike but I cannot find any other information....we arrive Thurs morning and had all day Fri planned....so I an a little concerned.

Hi CanadianJane, is it the vaporetti employees that will be on strike? Will the watertaxi drivers be also? Will all of the water transportation be on strike for 24 hours? Or do you know?

bblount, if you will be there the next week you won't have a problem as strikes in Italy don't last longer than the announced period of time.

And often CanadianJane strikes are cancelled. I would think there will be some way to get water transportation in Venice, otherwise that would more or less shut down the whole city. Best wishes to you both.

I don't know anything about this. A friend suggested I look up Venicecard.com and there was a note on the home page of the proposed strike this Friday from 0:00 for 24 hours...that was why I posted..

This is a website that I check often for all strikes and alerts. Hope it helps. Keep checking because many strikes are cancelled.

Thank you to Damright for this link...I copied the info for bblount. It looks like it may impact our ability to travel the canals on Friday if it goes through. Guess we will just make sure we have good walking shoes that day!!!!

September 15th 2006: 24 hours nationwide strike (0000-2400) of local public transportation personnel (buses, tramways, subways and some local trains).

September 15th 2006: a 24 hours strike (0000-2400) of all maritime personnel could disrupt ferries services nationwide.

Hi CJ,

You're lucky.

You will be in a very walkable city during the strike.

You could have planned to be on a train that day. :)
