Streetwise Maps

I've picked up Streetwise maps for Rome and Paris. I know they don't show the entire city, just the core -- but what they show they seem to be complete in listing all the little streets, etc.

My question: What do you use to circle or write on the maps? They are plasticized, and rather than try trial and error, I'd like to know what works.

Is there something for permanent marking and something that can be erased? (that won't smear when I use the maps)

Thanks in advance

Steve

I found that ball point pens make permanent marks.

You can also copy the maps and put your marks on the copy.

I use post it flags to mark sights I want to see. They come in packs of multi colors; I use different colors for different days.

Don't use a permanent marker on your map as you may want to use it again or lend it out.

I use a yellow or pink highlighter. If you wet it, it wipes off. I guess you could also use a dry erase marker, but I haven't tried it.

I like the Streetwise maps and buy one for anyplace I go, but I always use an additional map, usually the ones in the back of my DK Eyewitness Travel Guides. Inevitably, it will be easier to find something on one than the other.

Thanks, I never thought of highlighters. I got them in plenty of colors.

FWIW: I tried highlighters. After they dried, the mere touching of them rubbed them off.

Decided to use extra-fine "Sharpies".

Ira, I may augment the Sharpies with simple ball point. Many thanks.

Best regards
Steve
