Streatham High St.,

I need to get from Stansted Airport to Streatham High St., My husband has a problem with his foot and cannot walk too far. What is the easiest way to go

PalenQ Jul 30th, 2007 08:51 AM

taxi

if not from Stansted then take the Stansted Express train from the airport to Liverpool Street Station i believe then go by cab.

Whereabouts in Streatham - it's quite big. There is an overground station which is rubbish (the trains stop every where).

You are aware that Streatham aint the greatest of neighbourhoods?

a cab - to Streatham High Road?? Streatham is in south London (south of Tooting and Brixham) and a taxi would cost more than the airfare. Only a slight exaggeration.

I were going to say the same - Streatham not the greatest - but i believe it must be family there are going to see. Not unsafe just tacky. And i passed thru there many times when i was hanging out for weeks at Crystal palace and jogging into London.

I assume you mean Streatham High Road, not High Street.

Looking at tfl.co.uk, I don't see a lot of good options. Your best bet is to come into Liverpool Street via the Stansted Express, take the tube to Farringdon Rail Station (Circle or Metropolitan lines) and then take First Capital Connect to Wimbledon, getting off at Streatham. The station is on the High Road.

Or take a cab, as Pal suggests. Especially if you can't walk easily.

The train-tube-train route I describe should take you an hour and 35 minutes. But you should visit that website to confirm your exact traveling times.

A possible bus route from Liverpool Street (Stop K) would be to take Route 344 to Clapham Hill/St Johns Hill, and getting off at the Imperial War Museum, and changing there (Stop L) to Route 159 to Streatham Bus Garage, which is on the High Road.

You'd still have to make your way from Stansted to Liverpool Street via the Express.

as you can see, there is really no easy way to do this. Stansted is quite a ways north of London and Streatham is in south London. How long does he have to make the journey? And must he go directly to Streatham from Stansted? For instance is he staying in London for a day or two and only has to go to Streatham some time during his stay?

And if he has to do Stansted > Streatham > Stansted on the same day - OY!!

Thank you for replies. We are going directly to Streatham High Road to buy a car not to visit relations. The address is 642-654 Streatham High Road. It sounds as if we need a helicopter

This s a classic "I wouldnt start from here" problem. Streatham High Rd is the A23: the main road to Brighton which goes past Gatwick

Can you not fly to Gatwick instead?

audere_est_facere Jul 30th, 2007 09:56 AM

That's an awful faff-about just to buy a jam jar (as they say in Streatham). Is there nowhere else you could buy said car?

Got the bus to Victoria, train from there to East Croydon via Norbury. Bought the car in a garage 5 minutes from station. Car in great condition - much cheaper than Ireland. Headed to Caridiff and stayed in the Novotel Hotel which was excellent. The Bayside Brasserie was not open but the manager recommended Mimosa which was lovely. the whole affair was not too complicated after all
