There are very frequent direct trains all day long between Strasbourg and Colmar that take 30 minutes and cost 11.50€ each way.

The best and easiest English language website for you to use to find schedules and prices will be www.tgv-europe.com. Don't forget to uncheck the box marked "Direct Trains" to see all possible options. These trains have no reservations so no need to buy in advance. Just buy a ticket at the counter before you board the train.

Just a note about the TGV site if you are booking any trains in France that require reservations. If the TGV site redirects you to the RailEurope website then try again and enter "Antarctica" as your ticket collection country. Other countries may also work but just try to find a country that doesn't get you redirected to RailEurope. The RailEurope website often doesn't show all the trains and generally has higher prices but you can check just to compare. You can buy tickets up to 3 months or more in advance and the earlier you buy them the cheaper they will be. The discounted tickets are known as PREM tickets but these are non-refundable and can't be exchanged.

Here is a website that will tell you how to navigate the TGV website:

Hi ad,

check www.voyages-sncf.com for Strasbourg/Colmar. (Note spelling).
10 - 11.5E, depending on the train.

Enjoy your visit.

If you read French then www.voyages-sncf.com is fine to use. Even if you don't read French you could probably figure it out. However, www.tgv-europe.com is just the English language version of the voyages-sncf website (just click on the British flag at the bottom of the page) and unless I am sure someone can understand French I recommend the tgv-europe website. Most trains from Strasbourg to Colmar cost 11.50€ (the TER trains) but some TGV trains run on this route and last minute walk-up fares for these trains are generally between 10.50€ and 14€.

If you can, stay in Colmar. I had planned to stay there one night, and loved the town so much I stayed for 5 nights.

The Mercure Champ du Mars is situated in and on the edge of a park, so it's very pretty.

Colmar is called La Petite Venise, for its canals. Some wonderful white wines there. See of of the youtube videos.
