Strassbourg Restaurants
 

Does anyone know of any good restaurants in Strassbourg? I go there often and would like to find some good places to eat.

I usually don't go pass the crepes at the crepe place across from Hotel L'Europe.

Are these restaurants for the local specialities? I'll be with a vegetarian so so long it's not a Germanic sausage place, it should be good.

Is Kammenzeller the wooden one nr the Cathedral? That always seemed touristy so I've never been in.

nanda: Many of the local Strasbourg specialties ARE Germanic in nature - the region has changed hands between France and Germany 11 times, so there's no shortage of German influence on food, culture, language, etc.

Au Crocodile is a wonderful, upscale restaurant. Some other good places include the popular Brasserie La République on the rue du Faubourg-National, Zum Stissel - a great wine bar - near the cathedral, Chez Yvonne - a classic Strasbourg institution, on the rue du Sanglier, and La Coccinelle, on the rue Sainte-Madeleine.

Nanda, Kammenzell is probably the one you are speaking of. It could be considered "touristy" and it is big on foods typical of the region. Tarte a l'oignon *may be* a vegetarian choice.

Loved Maison Kammerzell this past September. If you request to be seated upstairs, you are away from the tourists. Didn't like the looks of Chez Yvonne, but now regret not eating there. Au Crocodile was unfortunately closed when we were there.

Another highly esteemed restaurant in Alsace is Auberge de l'Ill, in Ribeauville. It has held 3 stars longer than any other restaurant in France, with the exception of Paul Bocuse's outside Lyon.

I have never been there but have read good things about it forever.

Grandmere, DH and I ate in Auberge De L'ill in September and were less than wowed. We've eaten in several Michelin 3 star restaurants, and I still can't put my finger on it, but it was just an OK dining experience. The location was gorgeous tho.

Try <i>La Cloche &agrave; Fromage</i>, which serves cheese dishes almost exclusively. You might want to Google &quot;Strasbourg restaurants&quot; and see what you get.

For a simple winstub located in the Petit France area of Strasbourg with very good home cooking try l'Ami Fritz (http://www.studiodixit.com/chez/ami_fritz/uk/index.html ). I have eaten here twice and it was very good. Get there early or make reservations.

I also enjoyed the restaurant directly across the street but cant recall the name.

I also enjoyed L'Ami Fritz in Petite France area. If you are staying at the Hotel L'Europe, there is a darling little restaurant on a side street in back of the hotel. The receptionist at hotel recommended it to me. Quite small, inexpensive, but good. A young couple own the restaurant and live in a apartment above it.
