Strasbourg Hotels - Please help me decide

I looked at your recommendations and now I have to make the decision. We will be staying for 2 nighst (Sat thru Mondya). We will not have a car, love to walk reasonable distance or take the train or bus. We are looking for a centrally locatally clean, reasonably priced hotel (convenient to train staiton and main attractions and with decent pillows!). Here is my list:

Hotel Gutenberg
Hotel Cathedral
Hotel de l'Europe
Hotel Cardinal de Rohan
Hotel Regent Petite France
Hotel Suisse
Hotel Sofitel

Your help will be most appreciated

My take on Hotel Suisse:
"The room could have been a reasonable size for a single, but a very big bed took up most of it. Still, the location was good, the staff were friendly, and the breakfast buffet included three kinds of cheese." - click on my name for my TR. I'd certainly stay there again, and public transport in Strasbourg is fine.

We stayed at Cardinal de Rohan and it was very conveniently located. Right in front of the cathedral, short walk to everything else. I think the rooms were very basic, but thats all we look for. Enjoy!

well I stayed at hotel de l'Europe and loved it, so that's all I can say. Great hotel and great location, but I didn't stay in the others, so can't compare. I personally wouldn't want to be in front of the cathedral, anyway, I would avoid that, but as you know, other people like that idea.

I stayed at the Ibis directly across from the train station and loved it... for about 55€. Incredible view of the glass bubble covering the station and very convenient for the tramway... or just walking.

We enjoyed our stay at the Gutenberg last year -- it's about a block from the Cathedral -- our room had a beautiful view of its tower over the rooftops, just lovely. We walked everywhere, including to/from the train station, never took the tram. Don't know when you're going, we got a great off-season rate of 48E/night. I don't remember the pillows, but that's a good thing, because I'm usually picky and there obviously wasn't a problem with theirs, or I'd have remembered.

We didn't eat breakfast there, so I can't comment on that, but we found good breakfast cafes and coffee shops a minute or two from the hotel.

You'll love Strasbourg.

Hi ep,

We were very pleased with our stay at the Gutenberg.

When we stayed at the Rohan in '04, we had a lovely very large room that was in the back of the hotel facing the pedestrian street behind, i.e not facing the Cathedral. I know that some of the "inner" rooms only had air shaft windows, so if you stay there you may want to request a room on an outside wall. We were very happy with that hotel. They had a nice Continental breakfast that they delivered to our room for no extra charge.

I agree that you will love Strasbourg. Wonderful food, wine and atmosphere!

I stayed at the Hotel d'Europe for 3 nights and really liked the hotel and location. I loved Strasbourg!
