Strasbourg for Christmas but can't find an apartment...

My husband and I are thinking of a week at Christmas in Strasbourg but I'm having trouble finding an apartment that is available for our dates. Does anyone know of any websites or apartments I can look at?

We haven't booked trains yet but aim to arrive Sat 20 Dec and depart Sat 27 Dec.

We would like to stay in central Strasbourg but would look at another town in the area though not a small village. We won't have a car.

Thanks for any suggestions.

If you can read French I suggest you check vivastreet.fr I saw many rentals in Strasbourg on this page :
http://strasbourg.vivastreet.fr/anno...ces+strasbourg
Otherwise those websites are very popular
http://www.abritel.fr/uk/index.php
http://www.homelidays.com/FR-Locatio...sbourg_r23.asp
http://www.amivac.com/hebergement-lo...es-67-Bas-Rhin
Good luck

Thank you Coco, I will have a look. I don't read French but can make out the basics and then try doing a translation off a language website.

Any other suggestions welcomed.

The popular websites I suggested have an English version
http://www.abritel.fr/uk/cvliste.php...=vpx&km=20
this tinyurl http://tinyurl.com/59z9gy opens a page on homelidays in english as well

http://www.amivac.com/holiday-rentals-67-Bas-Rhin
voilà!

Hi Coco,
just in case you check back, thanks for all your links. I have spent ages checking and emailing but no luck so far. All apartments in Strasbourg seem booked out for the Christmas week. I have a few places I'm waiting to hear from but one apartment owner said it would be very hard to find something.

I think we will have to change plans. Any suggestions, we like France and it's easy for us to get to (from London). What about Aix or Avignon? Anywhere else at Christmas?

Thanks, Kay

I'd suggest looking in nearby Gengenbach. Apartments in the lovely old walled town start at around 30 Euros per night. You can daytrip into Strasbourg easily by train from there, or around the Black Forest towns to check out the Christmas markets. Train transport in the German portion is free - your hosts will give you a "konus karte" for this purpose. Contact the local tourist office for housing assistance.

Thanks, I will look it up on the map. It seems it's not a matter of a town having apartments, it's whether any of them are vacant at Christmas. I had no idea that area was so popular.

Any more ideas very welcome.

Perhaps I missed it, but I don't see that anyone has recommended www.vrbo.com, A quick search there shows that there is some availability for that week. Good luck!
