Strasbourg/Colmar in early November

Hi,

I have seen pictures of Colmar and would love to visit this town in early November. So I am thinking of having my base in Strasbourg as I have read it is a better transportation hub. Does anybody know if most shops or hotel in Colmar/Obernai/ Kaysersberg will be closed during early November? Is this a good time to go?

Can one visit the Colmar and the other towns without a car?

Colmar is an easy train ride from Strasbourg. It is a lovely town, nice walk from train station to the much visited tourist area of the old town canal district, but we enjoyed just wandering the quieter streets. Lovely buildings, small alleyways, really nice.
We also took the train to Selestat, then shuttle bus to haut Koenigsbourg, and to Mulhouse for the car museum (Schlumpf collection, really amazing even for non car enthusiasts).
It is not so easy to visit the quaint little villages without a car however, ....we did a 1/2 day bus tour from Strasbourg visiting Hunawihr and Riquewihr, that was well worth it. Similar tours visit Kaysersberg and other villages.
I have been to Strasbourg 3 times, but only in summer. I love the flower boxes and green vineyards in the route de vins that time of year.

Kaysersberg, don't know the town so well, almost certainly most things will be open.
will be closed during early November?"

Some appartment owners may be away in the Canaries but even then they will hire out using local staff.

I'd use a car, well I'd use a bicycle but assuming not, I'd use car.

As said above, Colmar is never "closed".
Colmar is a small transport hub with frequent trains resp buses and trains to Strasbourg, Mulhouse - Basel, Mulhouse - Besancon, Munster and Breisach - Freiburg.
November may be cold, foggy and rainy, not the best season for excursions into the vineyrads or the Vosges.
